When people ask us what is our course and we answer Geodetic
Engineering, they would try to think what
does that course mean? Does it really exist? What do they do? And some
would just say “ah surveying, you’re
measuring lands.”
Here you will know some things about our course.

Surveying or land surveying
is the technique, profession, and science of determining the terrestrial or
three-dimensional position of points and the distances and angles between them.
A land surveying professional is called a land surveyor. These points are
usually on the surface of the Earth, and they are often used to establish land
mapsand boundaries for ownership, locations like building corners or the
surface location of subsurface features, or other purposes required by
government or civil law, such as property sales.
Geodesy
also known as geodetics or geodetics engineering — a branch
of applied mathematics [2] and earth sciences, is the scientific discipline
that deals with the measurement and representation of theEarth, including its
gravitational field, in a three-dimensional time-varying space. Geodesists also
study geodynamical phenomena such as crustalmotion, tides, and polar motion.
For this they design global and nationalcontrol networks, using space and
terrestrial techniques while relying ondatums and coordinate systems.
Satellite geodesy is
the measurement of the form and dimensions of the Earth, the location of
objects on its surface and the figure of the Earth's gravity field by means of
artificialsatellite techniques—geodesy by means of artificial satellites.
AutoCAD is
a commercial software application for 2D and 3Dcomputer-aided design (CAD) and
drafting — available since 1982 as a desktop application and since 2010 as a
mobile web- and cloud-based app marketed as AutoCAD 360.
Developed
and marketed by Autodesk, Inc.,[1] AutoCAD was first released in December 1982,
running on microcomputerswith internal graphics controllers.[2] Prior to the
introduction of AutoCAD, most commercial CAD programs ran on mainframe
computers or minicomputers, with each CAD operator (user) working at a separate
graphics terminal.[3]
Cartography is
the study and practice of making maps. Combining science, aesthetics, and
technique, cartography builds on the premise that reality can be modeled in
ways that communicate spatial information effectively.
A geographic information system
(GIS) is a system designed to capture, store, manipulate, analyze, manage, and
present all types of spatial or geographical data.

"Patay na im kuya baby." A message that made my world to stop for a while. It was June 10, 2015 at past 11 in the evening when I've received that message. I was shocked of what I have read, my heart beats so fast and I found myself crying.
It's very hard for me to accept what happened. He's been with us for almost 25 years. We have already spent memories together. I have witnessed the ups and downs of his life. I've seen him struggling over his problems and overcoming it. He is a very good example of someone who would do everything just to live and continue his life together with his loved ones, he was so positive...he's looking into life as if he'd live longer that everyone is expecting.
I miss my brother so much, for me those days together with him were not enough. If could just turn back the time, I would like to do more to make him happy...I'd like to tell him more story, share a lot of things and spend more time with him. And if God would just give me even an hour to talk to him, I won't waste any second of it.
To all of you, now that you still have the chance to do whatever you want to do to make you family happy...do it...don't waste time and think as if life will end tomorrow so you have to do your best to make them happy.
As a Geodetic Engineering student we are required to learn how to set up different kinds of instruments used in our field. So we would like to share a bit of what we've learned...
Geodetic Engineers are commonly known in Land Surveying, the instruments shown here are examples of what we're using when conducting surveys.
Here are some of the instruments involved in this presentation:
Leveling Rod
Automatic Level
Surveying Tripod

In this video we will show you the steps of setting up an automatic level together with the tripod.
After I
graduate and become a registered Geodetic Engineer,
I'm expecting to travel around the world. I'd like to explore and
see how people live in other countries. Yes! It’s a bit impossible to travel
around the world, but there were some people who already did this… if they can
do it, why can’t I?
For me to be in other places means enjoying and appreciating the
things God have made, it's like putting yourself into something that will make
you happy.
To be in other places is to meet different kinds of people. I
believe human can improve and widen their knowledge through reading and
traveling. For me, traveling can bring people into colorful world where you can
experience different culture and customs and make life more fun. And it’s not
just fun because I know we could learn something from them (people out there).
"Life is not a problem to be solved,
but a reality to be experienced."
~ Soren Kierkegaard
Some people says “Do not expect things to happen because it’s better to feel
surprised than to feel disappointed.” but for
me expecting about something is like dreaming about it. Having expectations in
life means having dreams, you’ll be forced to do something in order to fulfill
your dreams. It may also serve as your motivations.
I am
pretty sure that everyone wants to be successful; especially when they meet
productive people and witness how they manage their time, use their resources
and talents, and how they socialize with the people around them. Looking at
these people adds to your eagerness on achieving something in your life.
Even me,
I’m aiming to be one of these successful individuals. I’m expecting to graduate
or finish my studies, become a professional Geodetic Engineer in the future.
But for now as a student, the very first expectation I have is to be a degree
holder, specifically to be a licensed Geodetic Engineer. And for me to reach
this, I have to excel in class and if not, at least to pass all the subjects I
have. I know that the life of a student is not easy but if we expect that
we’ll be able to pass through the trials of it, maybe someday we'll meet
all those expectations.
But of
course, it’s not that easy for me to do that. Sometimes because of this
inevitable presence of uncertainties, many things don’t happen as what I have
expected. This often gives me pressure considering the fact that I am a DOST
scholar. But because giving up is not on my vocabulary (Indeed!), I would just
pause for a minute and tell myself, “Just trash all your worries and always
trust God.”
I’m just being optimistic, I’m
always looking at the positive side of life. And hard work has always been my
companion in doing things…
Thank you for reading, I hope you’ve
learn something from this short blog of mine.
